Hi jacqueline,
your query raises several thoughts - writing from middle England. I see there was a captain Thomas Yardley from Rutherford county, Tennessee in 1812. Is there a connection between the emigration from Rutherford county, North Carolina to this area, which included Jarrett and Williamson families. My postings about the three Yardleys in Carolina there in 1790 refer to their fairly certain origin in Bucks county, Pennsylvania- where Williamson, Flyes came from. Thomas is one of the original Yardley family names going back to before 1400.
bye pete
