Hello there...I have been researching Temperance Flowerdew and George Yeardley for many years now, and I was amazed to see the Wikipedia entry, so I looked up the citations to verify the information on Joseph Croshaw and Elizabeth Yeardley. In all of the scholarly research I've seen, most notably John Frederick Dorman's most recent edition of Adventurers of Purse and Person (which has exhaustive chapters on both Raleigh Croshaw's and George Yeardley's descendants), I have never seen any reference to Elizabeth returning to Virginia after her mother died. So I was flabbergasted to see that on Wikipedia. And sure enough, when I checked the citations mentioned as sources in the article, THERE WERE ABSOLUTELY NO REFERENCES WHATSOEVER TO ELIZABETH YEARDLEY BEING A WIFE OF JOSEPH CROWSHAW! None! This "marriage" is in the fanciful imagination of whomever wrote that article. Now that it is morphing all over the internet, I think I will go and correct the article myself. If I recall, it can be "edited" by Wikipedia users.
I do have my own theories concerning Elizabeth's fate, and they are actually backed up by some documentation. I hope to get more, but I need to get a researcher in London to help me further. I'm not posting my ideas on any forums because I haven't proven anything, but if anyone is interested, email me directly.
