Robert L. Yantis Obituary/WA-ID
In a history book of Meeker County, MN. have been taped two obituaries that my aunt had.She is long since gone, and I have never figured out who these men are and do not have them in my database at all.The one obit for a Wesley Graves is dated 1889.The other obit, which looks and is colored the same has no date, so would be guessing to say the 1880's, but here it is....This is from a Idaho Newspaper.Parenthesis are mine.
ROBERT L. YANTIS, whose death we announced last week, was a native of Missouri. His father and family came to this coast in 1853.In company with Judge Hays, Mr. Thompson and others, Mr. Yantis settled in Olympia,(WA) where they remained until 1866 when they removed to Oro Fino (ID)and engaged in the merchantile business. In 1871 they bought the store of Alexander and Loewenberg and conducted the business until 1880 or 1881.At that time the deceased came to this city and located. He married Miss Eva Kelly, daughter of Dr. M.A. Kelley, in 1881. His wife survives him together with one child.Their home was a heaven of love, as the deceased was devotedly attached to his family and Mrs. yantis is a woman of exceptionally sweet amibility of disposition and loveliness of character.Deceased had been out of health for four years, and a few months ago he and his familiy went to Olympia, W.T. (??) for a change of climate and to visit his people. He visited Seattle for medical advise and placed himself under the treatment of Dr. E. L. Smith, a noted and skillful physician. His disease proved to be cancer of the kidney and incurable.he died on the 28th of last month. He was constantly attended by loving friends up to the time of his death and his remains were interred by the grave of his father in the beautiful cemetery at Olympia. He was a man of upright character and individual independence of manhood.he was uncompromisingly loyal to his moral convictions and sincere in his devotion to friends.his name will be cherished in fond memory by his many old time friends and associates in this city and whereever he was known. This brief and incomplete biographical sketch of the deceased is but a weak tribute to his virtues. It is all that we now have at command. He has crossed death's mysterious ferry and is beyond the reach of earthly ills or joys.Fare-thee-well.
