I do not know if this would be of interest to anyone here, but I thought it might. In a letter written by my great great grandfather Dulin Stearns (1836-1863) to his wife Rusha Elizabeth King Stearns in June of 1862, he mentions that Adam Yandle was taken prisoner by the yankees in a battle near Richmond, Virginia. Since he only mentions two other men in the letter aside from his brothers, I would imagine that they were close friends, either to his or his wife's families...maybe even family connections.
The Stearns family lived near Mint Hill on the border between Mecklenburg/Union counties. (The name was sometimes spelled Starns or Starnes.) They were members of the Morningstar Lutheran Church. Dulin was the son of Valentine Stearns and his wife Olivia Ritch. Valentine Stearns was likely a son of Jacob Starns (1775-1848)and Esther Wentz (1778-1853)who were married in Mecklenbrug County in April 1798. Rusha King was the daughter of Reverend Harmon Daniel King (1805-1906) and his first wife, Mary V. Starnes (1814-1865). They had belonged to the Bethlehem Methodist Church, but he was later associated with the Corinth Baptist Church. Mary V. Starnes was likely the granddaughter of David Starnes (1758-1833)whose family was closely associated with the Mt. Prospect Methodist Church down near the border of South Carolina. Both the Stearns and Starnes families likely trace back to Frederick Starns/Staring (c. 1700-1774) who came to this country from Germany with his father in 1710, and died in Virginia. His sons were in Mecklenburg County as early as the 1760s.
