Lunsford Pitts, Jr. died 12 Mar. 1884.
I've never seen the elder Lunsford Pitts,Sr. referred to as "Lunny" only the sons, grandsons, etc. Dr. L.P. Yandell, Sr., was one of seven physicians who began the Louisville Medical College, where he taught. It was a leading medical school for its day. The book, "David Wendel Yandell Physician of Old Louisville, by Nancy Disher Baird, pub. 1978, states, that in 1860, Dr. L.P. Sr. and L.P. Jr., went to Memphis, while Susan stayed in Louisvile, but she later that yr traveled to Memphis and took typhoid and died. Her children, Willie, 17 yrs., and Sally, then lived for awhile with their brother, Dr. David W. and wife, Fannie. The following yr Willie lived with his father and attended medical school in Louisville. All three of L.P. Sr.'s sons, were in the War-David W., "Lunny" and Willie--and all were doctors. David became Medical Director of Army of the West during the War and made a name for himself. Lunny also taught in Louisville, and "Willie"-- Dr.William Martin Yandell finally moved to Texas for his frequent asthma, and died at El Paso 24 Mar. 1900.
Dr. L.P. Sr., was married to Susan Juliet Wendel, daugh of David Wendel and Sarah "Sally" Hale Nielson. After she died in 1860, he mar. Elizabeth Bland in 1861.
