Boyd Merrill McCrary was born September 14, 1816 in Sevier Co. Tennessee, and died November 17, 1895 in Howard Co. Missouri. Buried in McCrary family cem., on Rd. HH. He married Frances Evaline Yaeger August 25, 1842 in Howard Co. Missouri. She was born February 24, 1842 in Madison Co. Virginia, and died March 4, 1909 in Howard Co., buried in McCrary family Cem.
       Notes for Boyd Merrill McCrary:
The following sketch of Capt. Boyd M. McCrary was written in the 1876 Howard County Atlas, page 15: "Boyd M. McCrary's family is Scotch-Irish descent. It is not now known at what time the ancestry arrived in this country. Mr. McCrary's grandfather, Boyd McCrary, was a native of South" (actually North)" Carolina where he married a Miss Merrill, and he raised a large family. Mr. McCrary's father Benjamin, is still living, and is 92 years old. He went when a young boy to Tennessee and there married Miss Mary Coleman "Poly". In 1820, he came to this county, where this lady died in 1837. He afterwards married Miss Hariet Wilson, daughter of Adam Wilson of Randolf County.
       Capt. McCrary, was born in Sevier County Tennessee, September 14, 1816, and was four years of age when his family arrived in Howard Co. August 10, 1841, he married Frances E. Yager, who came from Virginia in 1837. He commenced farming in Chariton Co. where he yet owns a good farm. In 1849, he was elected assessor and after an interval of two years was re-elected the next term, and is now serving as deputy sheriff under sheriff Virginian Leland.)
       During the late Civil War he served in the Southern army. He is in politics as a democrat.
       He and his lady have been for many years members of the Baptist church and have five children living, viz: Mrs. Martha J. (John Woods),, Mrs. Cornelia (John. M. Elgin), Miss Eva, Miss Annie, and Miss Minnie C., all of this county"
       His obituary was printed in the Howard County newspaper: " JUDGE BOYD M. McCRARY, Death Claims This Venerable Citizen at the age of 79 years. One by one pioneer citizens of Howard County are fadding away and with each departure there is a vacancy that can never be filled, because of some peculiar of loving characteristic of the deceased. On Saturday morning November 16, at 6 0'clock, the spirit of Judge Boyd M. McCrary took its flight to the Master that gave it. Deceased had been in failing health formore than a year past, and for some weeks past, his death was only a matter of a short time, he being a sufferer from dropsy. Previous to this illness he had always been a robust, vigorous man.
       Boyd M. McCrary was born September 14, 1816, in Sevier County, Tennessee aand came to Howard County, MO. with his parents four years later. He began farming in Chariton township, near Rock Springs church, where he owns a fine farm. He was a very genial and popular man, having a good word of cheer for everybody. He was honest and upright in all his dealings, and he had a large personal following. On August 10th, 1841, he married to Miss Frances Yeager, who with four daughters, Mrs. John a. Woods, Howard Co.; Mrs. Annie Martin, Indiana;, Mrs. E. M. Forster, Moberly and Mrs. J. B Veron, St. Louis, survive him.
       In 1849, he was elected assessor for two years, the re-elected for another term. In 1856, he was elected sheriff and served four years. He also seved as deputy sheriff under V. J. Leland in 1876. In 1892, he was elected Judge of the County for the Eastern Distrct, and re-elected in1894, which office he held at the time of his death. He always exerted a great influence for good. He was a faithful and zealous member of the Rugular Bapist church; a devoted husband and kind father. His funeral was preached at Rock Springs Church by Elder Huff of Mexico, Sunday afternoon. Interment by the masonic lodge of Fayette, of which deceased was a honored member. The very large gathering at the church and grave attested to the high esteem in which 'Uncle Boyd was held. To the bereaved ones we extend sincere sympathy.

Captain Absalom McCrary
Farmer and Nurseryman.
Captain McCrary is not only a successful and enterprising farmer, but he
has been a gallant soldier of two wars. He was born in this county, October 8, 1821, was rea red here and educated in the common schools. Farming has been his occupation through life, s upplemented by the nursery business. In June 1846, he enlisted in the service designed for t he Mexican War, and followed the starry flag to the halls of the Montezumas. Returning hom e afterwards, he resumed farming and the fruit tree culture. He has a neat place of one hund red and fifty acres. He is the oldest nurseryman in the county, and one of the oldest in th e state, having been engaged in the business over forty years. In the last war, he enliste d in Captain Cooper's Company of this county, in which he served for a time as Lieutenant, an d was afterwards appointed a recruiting officer in the Confederate Army, with the rank of Cap tain. The war closed, however, while he was in this commission. For three years he was just ice of the peace, of the county, for his township. In November, 1849, he was married to Mis s Caroline Yeager, a native of Madison County, Virginia. They have five children, Milton, Pa trick, Eva, Absalon E., and Callie. Mr. and Mrs. McCrary are both members of the Baptist Chu rsh.

Notes for JOHN A. WOODS:
       John A. woods was the seventh of nine children, the family of Larkin K. and his wife Mary, whose madien name was Hocker. Larkin K. Woods was a native of Kentucky and was brought to this state in 1803. In 1816 he was brought withhis fathers family to Howard County, where he was reared and lived until his death, which occured February 14, 1866. John A. was born in this county August 26, 1844, and was raised on his father's farm, where he lived until 1867. He then settled on his present farm, which now consists of 210 acres. On the 4th of April 1866, Mr. wods married to Miss Martha J. McCrary, daughter of Boyd M. McCrary an old settler of this county. They have five children: Boyd, Tillis, Eva, Hattie and Mabel. Like most of the young menin this part of the state during the war, Mr Woods enlisted in the Confederate Army, with which he continued until the genral surrender. Being quite a youth, however, when the war broke out, he did not enlist until 1864, then becomming a member of company E of General Clarks division. He surrenderd at Alexandria in 1865.
