Yadon/Yaden Family Link

My family name is Yaden, although it was Yadon until the 1880's. My Great-Grandfather is buried under the name Joseph Hunter YADON (born 04 May 1848, died 13 Sept. 1913, buried in Slate Hill Baptist Cemetary in Laurel County, London, KY. My Grandfather is buried under the name Rufus Madison YADEN (born 13 August 1888, died 14 march 1958, buried the same location). I have always been fascinated by the change in the spelling in the family name, with father buried under on spelling and son buried under the other spelling.
The story about the name spelling chage that I have always heard is that two YADON brothers of my Grandfather signed a contract to carry federal mail through the region (from Cincinnatti to Knoxville) and one "looped" the "o" in the family name, and the federal government held him to this spelling of the name (YADEN). All of the family now residing in Laurel County, KY go by the name YADEN, although we are all direct descendants of JOSEPH PRESTON YADON and SUSANAH MARY PENNYBAKER-YADON. Does anyone have any futher info about the name spelling change?
I have just found the site tonight and have had a GREAT time reading the posts about the family name.
