Deloris I have the Thomas Winn who married Mary Bouldin, however, I have his father as Captain Thomas Wynne, son of Col Robert Wynne (Speaker).I have seen this lineage but many things on the Winn's of Lunenburg have been so scrambled that it's hard to find a true lineage that is correctly stated. It is believed in the family that Thomas and Mary Bouldin's had two son's Daniel and Thomas.Although I have not done detailed research on this family, for it has taken me 20 years to straighted out my lineage of John Winn of Lunenburg.
My line
Col. Robert Wynne
Maj. Joshua Wynne
Capt. Peter Wynne
John Winn
Mourning Winn
William Jones Winn
Marcus Winn
George Albert Winn
Vera Beatrice Winn (My Grandmother)
John appears to have been born, John Wynne, by this is confirmed in his land purchases, Crown Land Grants from King George II on the 01 Dec 1740 and on the 05 Jun 1746, area of Tucking Creek, Brunswick County.1748 tithable list of Lunenburg, he is listed as John Winn and a record, Lunenburg on the 14 Nov 1753, name is listed as John Winne, selling a portion of this land.As of 1755 the name stays the same as Winn. However, the family either through other's writing the records changes from Winn to Wynn and this happened up to 1910, for the family.
The other part of Captain Peter Wynne who arrived in 1609, I and many of the other early researchers have him being kin to Speaker Robert Wynne, however, like your self, I have never found the notation as to such proof. Will give you some more information and that would be John's father Captain Peter Wynne. It has been very hard in understanding the circumstances for Peter Wynne. However, through some early researchers and in my own research, there were two Peter Wynne's.The Peter Wynne that married Frances Anderson, was not the son of Major Joshua Wynne. He appears to be the brother of or a relation to the John Wynne of Amelia. The Peter Wynne son of Joshua Wynne in the family research married one Frances Harrison Hamblin who died around 1724, and then Peter dying around 1735.Through records of Prince George the court orders the guardianship of Harry Wynne and the other children of Peter Wynne deaceased, though the other children were not named.John would have been above the age of 14, since he was born around 1718 and would be 17 years old at this time.
This is also confirmed by Virginia Law that anyone who is granted Crown Land would had to be 21.Boddie in his early books and many other researchers have this John Winn of Lunenburg the younger son of Joshua Wynne, William Wynne. This I confirmed 10 years ago that the John of Lunenburg and the John Wynne, son of William Wynne were two completely different person's.William's son John followed him when he moved into Pitt. Co. were this John joined as Captain in the Revolutionary War.John of Lunenburg was completely to old for service and never left Lunenburg.Hope it helps Jim
