Hi, Ellen. I also had Winns going to Maine (then was Mass. Bay Colony) then to NH, then back to Mass. where I grew up. Will post you some resources about the Woburn Winn line. This is what I know of Edward after a lot of searches: was a farmerm + carpenter; probably sailed out of London with Barnabis Davis (?), probably born in England and not Wales, either in Thornton-Curteis and distantly related to the Wynnes there, or in Ipswich, England. There is no record of his baptism; I checked and that was not unusual; esp at that time and esp if you were not well to do and esp if you were not Church of England (and there were breakaway Protestant sects at that time; and at the time of his immigration, Mass. was highly Puritan). Marriage bans were also supposed to be Church of England so a lot didn't record them and wasn't yet recorded anyway on a regular basis; any records which might have otherwise existed have long since been destroyed or not regularly retained at that time; and so on. Anyway I have 2 sources for Maine genealogy which include the Winn line (still same as yours; Edward had about 9 kids - my Winns went to Maine about the time of the Amer. Revolution), which I hope will shed some light on the controversy of his parenthood. The overwhelming majority of people on Rootsweb and other family pedigrees still list him as born in Thornton-Curteis, only one in Ipswich. Will send you my sources as soon as I can go back through them; will then also let you know whatever turns up from the Maine genealogists whenever that happens. How nice to have a DNA already on record! It will no doubt come in handy in the future; it's certainly the new technology of genealogy. Nice to hear from you too. Marcia (Winn) Lent. Talk to you soon.
