Seeking information on the children of Major Littleton Wynn and Amanada Frances Harper, daughter of John Jackson Harper and Sarah Frances Ogletree. Littleton Wynn was the son of Thomas Wynn and Mary Sturdivant.
My great grandfather Dr. James Overton McDowell was married to Maria Ann Elizabeth Wynn Dec 19, 1845 in Auburn, AL. Maria Ann Elizabeth was born Dec., 19, 1828 and died May 26, 1860. She is buried in Auburn. Upon the death of Maria, Dr. J.O. then married the younger sister Lavonia Jacqueline Wynn sometime that same year. Lavonia was born July 3, 1841 and died December 6, 1908.
The children of Dr. J.O. McDowell and Maria Ann Elizabeth Wynn were:
1.) James Ogletree McDowell - b. btwen 1845 - 1847 and died September 15, 1850 in Auburn.
2.) John Littleton McDowell was born April 15, 1847 and died June 29, 1848 in Auburn.
3.) Thomas A. McDowell was born Aug 14, 1854 in Auburn. Married James Claudia Banks Barber. He raise her three sons from her first marriage. Thomas died April 16, 1912 and is buried Oakwood Cemetery in Ft.Worth, Tarrant Co., Tx with his wife.
4.)Augustus Gamewell McDowell was born January 7, 1857 in Auburn. Married Addie Gilroy. Augustus died October 22, 1928 and is buried with his wife and three daughters in Calvary Cemetery, Dallas, Dallas Co., TX.
His three daughters were:
i) August McDowell b. 2/8/1888 and married W. J. Kramer. Augusta died 9/14/1957.
ii) Mabel McDowell b.10/19/1892 never married and died 1/26/1982
iii) Cecila McDowell b.1/30/1895 never married and died 12/30/1964.
The children of Dr. J.O. and Lavonia Jacqueline Wynn were:
1.) Eula Juliet McDowell b.August 6, 1861 never married and died November 20, 1934 in Timpson, Shelby Co., TX. Eula is buried next to her mother in the Timpson Cemetery. Eula's death certificate indicates that she was an invalid.
2.) James Overton McDowell (Jr.) b. March 24, 1864 married Anne Brooksie McAiron. James died October 25, 1909 in Witchita Falls, Wichita Co., TX and buried in the city cemetery there. Two children were born to this union.
i)Marion McDowell b.10/6/1889 married Lelia Eunice Ramsey. Marion died in 1973 and is buried in the Timpson Cemetery. Two children were born to Marion and Lelia but both are deceased. Jeanice McDowell Pate and Jocile McDowell Marauta. Jeanice does have descendants.
ii)Harold Lee McDowell b.12/25/1893. Married Emmett Leona Whiteside. Harold died 4/23/1940 and is buried in Timpson Cemetery. He had two daughters, Rose McDowell Otto and Brooksie Leona McDowell Myklebust. There are no living member of Rose McDowell Otto and Brooksie Leona McDowell Myklebust has two sons Atwood and Peter. Both sons of have children.
3.)Maria Louise McDowell b. January 18, 1866 and never married. She died February 22, 1950 and is buried in the Timpson Cemetery, Timpson, Shelby Co., TX. (She took care of her older sister who was an invalid.)
4.) Emory Lee McDowell was born November 1, 1871. He married Eula Harmonson. Lee died shorty after his honeymoon on June 24, 1900. He is buried in the Woodsman of the World Cemetery (IOOF) in Denton, Denton Co, TX.
5.)Mary Ira McDowell was born June 14, 1877 and married a W.H.Cunnigham. They moved to OK. Mary died July 6, 1912 and is buried int he Timpson Cemetery, Timspon, Shelby Co., TX. She had four children.
i)W. Cunningham
ii)Darnella Cunningham
iii)Hollis b. 1902
iv)Eugina.
I have no further information on their descendants.
6.) John Lillian McDowell was born December 12, 1879. Married Catherine Mozelle Roberts in San Augustine, San Augustine Co., TX. John died March 30, 1952 in Mansfield, Tarrant Co., TX and buried in Rose Hill Cemetery in Ft.Worth,Tarrant Co., Tx.
John had the following children.
i.) Gretchen Louise McDowell b. 11/28/1903 maried Joseph Earl Guerra. Gretchen died 9/16/1983 in San Antonio, Bexar Co., TX in Sunset Memorial Cemetery. She had four daughters of which I am a descendant of.
ii)Gladis Loraine McDowell b.1912 d.1962 married Oran Robert Whatley. She is buried in Mt. Olive Cemetery, Ft.Worth, Tarrant Co., TX. Her children were John Robert Whatley and Judy Louise Whatley.
iii) Benjamin Roland McDowell b.1915 d.March 1991 and buried in Troop, TX. His sons are Gregory McDowell and Bhan Roland McDowell.
iv) John Gene McDowell b.1919 d.1998. He was creamated and his ashes were spread over his farm in Cosacana, TX. His daughter is Rhonda McDowell
