Hi Gordon
I don't know if you remember me, I psoted a message a long time back on the forum. I've been in contact with Richard Dines since and we've progressed a lot on mine and his family tree.
I'm afriad you've rather thrown a spanner in the works...I'm a little confused.
You said: "I doubt that you are related to the Williams Wynn family unless you can find a Williams name in your background. My impression is that the Williams Wynn family have preserved the double surname intact, most certainly the direct descendants have, right to the present day. The estate of Wynnstay, Ruabon to which you refer came into the Williams family when Sir John Wynn 5th baronet of Gwydir died childless in 1719 and bequeathed everything to young Watkin Williams on condition Watkin took the additional surname of Wynn. However I must say that if you were indeed related to the Williams Wynn family under the name of Wynn only, it would be very significant."
Now, all this relates to me, but Elizabeth-Ellen WW Wynn, my great grandmother, was cut off from the family by Elizabeth and her husdnad when she married beneath her; therefore, she was not given Wynnstay or their house in St James's Square.
Therefore, we have not recieved the name either; she just called herself Wynn, andlater Wynn-Thomas.
Therefore, I am pretty certain that I am directly descended from Jo0hn Wynn, and aside from that, Elizabeth Ellen is the spitting image of him, and my mother is starting to get his shape around the eyes. I know this may not mean anything, but can you please clarify this for me and Richard? You see, I am desccneded from all 6 of the Watking Wliiiam Wynns, and Richard we think from the 1st Bart's brother, Charles.
I would be grateful if you could possibly help us!
Oliver Fairclough at Amgueddfa Caerdydd (Cardiff Museum) has traced the family tree also. I will tell you when I see this.
Thanks a lot,
Laura
