Thank you for your response. It is a great thrill to make contact. When I came to Scotland five months ago I had no idea that I would fall in love with the place or that I would get so intimately involved in our family history - although it has been a background interest for a long time.
Unfortunately I do not have access to the responses to my uncle's inquiries or the photo because they are in the home of JD Wyllie's wife who is now in a nursing home. Is it possible for you to scan them to me? I know this is a big imposition. As I am new to this site I am not sure if it possible to attach documents. If not you can email them to me at email@example.com.
And do you know whether they ever completely established the family connection? I have census records that trace Alexander when he was living with his farmer brother (my ancestor) James at Boghead Farm near Johnshaven on the east coast through his time as a probationary minister and then his departure overseas. All the dates and places of birth seem to fit. It appears to be the same person but the middle name Lowe has always thrown me as it does not appear as a surname in any other branch of the family of which I am aware.
Anything you can do to help would be greatly appreciated. It would also be helpful to have the contact details of David Mackay's family. They may have other material.
I will be most happy of course to share all my info when I get the picture straight.
I look forward to your reply. I hope you and your family have a wonderful Christmas.
