Hi John,
I remembered that there is a Wylde pedigree among the records at Worcester County Record Office, County Hall, Worcester, England, but this referred to later Wyldes than the people you and I are interested in.
The Wyldes of Worcester are in a terrible muddle, mainly because there are two George Wyldes.
What I have sketched out - and, please, everybody, this is the best that I have been able to do, and may not be correct:
1. Simon Wylde of the ford at Dodderhill, was the father of
2. Thomas Wylde, who was wealthy through cloth trade. At some time he acquired the manor of Impney. In 1545 he bought the Commandery at Worcester. In 1547 he was Bailiff of Worcester. In 1548 Alderman of Worcester. In either 1558 or 1560 he died.He married Eleanor Wall, who was previously married to Edward Corbett. She was one of four daughter of George Wall, who had possessed the manor of Impney. They had children:
3.a. Robert, chr 8th Nov 1562, at St.Martin's, Worcester. He married Margaret.Their effigies are in the nave in Worcester Cathedral. They had a son, Robert, who was a barrister in 1646 and was a Royalist Officer. He married Anne.
3.b. Thomas, who purchased Glazeley estate. He died in 1590. He married Elizabeth, only daughter of Richard Cooke, Esq.He granted reversion of Glazeley and Wadeley to Anthony Rooper, Esq., George Wylde and Thomas Ive, gent. to the use of his wife. Their son was Sir Edmund Wylde, who held the rectoral manor of Kempsey of the Dean and Chapter of Worcester.1620 he was living at Kempsey.1620 Sheriff of Worcestershire.1620 3rd April, he died.He married Dorothy, daughter and heir of Sir Francis Clarke of Houghton Conquest.Their children were Walter, who died before 1620 and Edward who was alive in 1620.
3.c. George of Droitwich, born 1555.Sergeant of Law.1608-1616 on the Council of Wales. Will dated 1616.@Impney passed to this George"(Written in pencil in my notes, indicating uncertainty.)Married Frances Huddleston, born circa 1577, Sawston, Cambridgeshire.Their children were:
3.c.i. George, lawyer of the Inner Temple.Lived in the Herriotts.Monument in St.Peter's Droitwich.Died 1679.I think that this must be the George Wylde, Lord Chief Baron of the Exchequer under Cromwell - but again, I have not proved this to my satisfaction.
3.c.ii John,Esq. born circa 1618 (!?) (I'm obviously not happy about this:)) of Droitwich.Rector of Glazeley.Married Anne, daughter of Sir Thomas Harris, bart.Buried 1695, aged 77.Victoria, Worcestershire has it that Impney passed to this John, who was appointed Chief Baron of the Exchequer in 1646.He died in 1669.His daughter married Charles West, Lord De La Warr.(Obvious conflict with other information.)
3.c.iii. Elizabeth, who married Walter Blount of Soddington, who acted for Elizabeth's brother, John, during his minority.
If anyone can help me improve on the above, I would be most grateful to hear from you.
Best wishes to you all,
Gillian
