Death of Alfred Molesworth ~ father of Lillie M. Wyland ~ Iowa
The Chariton Leader, Chariton, Iowa
Thursday, February 16, 1905
MR. ALFRED MOLESWORTH, one of the pioneer settlers of this county, died at his home in Belinda on Friday, February 10, 1905, at the advanced age of 77 years. Funeral services conducted by Rev. F.B. Palmer of this city were held at the Disciples Church at Belinda on Sunday afternoon at three o'clock, and in spite of the inclemency of the weather were attended by a large concourse of sorrowing friends.
ALFRED MOLESWORTH was born at Deersville, Harrison County, Ohio, January 26, 1828. He came to Iowa in 1851 and settled on his farm in Pleasant Township, Lucas County, in March 1855, and lived there continuously until four years ago, when on account of failing health he left the farm and moved to Belinda where his death occurred. He was married March 22, 1855 to MARY JANE KIGER, who, with six daughters, survive him. The daughters are BARBARA A. SPIKER; MINNIE C. CARSON; LILLIE M. WYLAND; LULA E. PIERCHBACHER; ELSIE J. BINGAMAN; and E. LOIS MOLESWORTH.
The daughters all live in this county and were there during his last illness. In the death of this good man the community mourns a kind, hospitable neighbor, a sympathetic friend, one whose ear was ever open to the call of the needy.
As a pioneer he endured the hardships incident to such a life thus developing that sturdy honesty, uprightness and love of right which was characteristic of him. He united with the Methodist Church in early manhood and expressed himself only a short time before his death as being willing to go. The bereaved relatives have the sympathy of a host of friends throughout the county in their great grief.
