In searching for Civil War records I found Samuel B. Wyland. He served in Company H. of the 148th Penn. infantry. He was promoted to a corporal 12-1-1864, then to Sgt.. 1-1-1865. He mustered in 8-16-1862 amd mustered out 6-1-1865.
Perhaps he was the father of Samuel B. or he was 50 + and still having children. No other info.
You can write to National Archives and Records Admin. in Washington D.C.and for $37.00 get a full military record. For $14.00, you will receive pension information and perhaps widow and children names. Hope this helps.
