first, from what i've been told, indians & indian mixes were often described as "black hair, black eyes & dark complexion", particularly in new england & particularly when registering for military service.the alexander line in my family has always dead-ended at philip alexander who married in woburn, ma @1710, and although the family story is that he was scottish (or irish), it's an odd name for a child born immediately after king philip's war, the tensions of which originated with king alexander (massasoit's heirs).i've been told 13 of his 15 grandchildren were described such.
second, i'm desperately searching for the ancestry of mary wykoff, born @1800 in woodcock twp, crawford co, pa.she married edward douglas, and their daughter eliza married ben bresee.if you're interested, i posted alot of their descendents tonight on the wyckoff (& douglas, & bresee) site, may decipher some more soon, but know nothing beyond her name.
