I thought that I would share what I have found for one of the Wyche/Wyke/Weeks families of PG Co., VA in the late 1600's and early 1700's.
Though this is a work in progress I will quote "Sally's Place" and say this is how I see it now.
Henry Wyche is b. ca. 1648 in Surry Enland the s/o Henry Wyche and Ellen Bennett d/o Ralph. Henry may have m. a Sarah or Elinor since those were the names of his daughters. Henry had a will Aug. 1, 1712, pr. 18 March 1714/5 and an Inventory in 1713?
Sarah Wyche who m. Wm Hunt and may have had two sons George and Henry. Henry supposedly moved to Granville, NC ca. 1750.
James Wyche who m. an Elizabeth _____. James had a will date of 1749 in Surry Co., VA that was proved 20 June 1749. James and Elizabeth had chn: James who m. Leah Maclin, Amy who m. Ambrose Jackson, Tabitha who m. ____Lucas, Martha who m. _______Bridges, Elizabeth who m. _____Johnson, Sarah, Ann, Francis, Elizabeth (unmarried at time of will) and Nathaniel.
Elinor Wyche who m. Francis Mayberry. Elinor had an estate dated 17 Feb. 1741 and Francis had a will date of 12 Jan. 1728/29. They had chn: Francis Mayberry and William Mayberry.
George Wyche who m. Sarah/Leah Wall. George had a will date of 5 Oct. 1753, pr. 15 July 1757. and had chn: Peter, George and Benjamin who left an inventory 1768/72.
William Wyche who m. a Judith Hunt or Braddy?. Wm.left a will 15 Feb. 1719/20 and had chn: Cyril who left no chn, Sarah who m. Richard Avery, Judith who m. Wm. Edmonds and Elizabeth who m. John Rawlings. When Wm. d. Feb. 1719/20 his relict Judith, m. Richard Parker and had two more chn: Frederick and Drury who m. Eliz. Barham.
Henry Wyche who m. ______ and had a will proved 4 Mar. 1735 in Brunswick and an inventory 7 April 1737. I suspect that the Francis Wyche who had a will date 11 April 1747, pr. 15 May 1748 in Bruswick VA was the s/o Henry but I don't have proof. The chn of this Francis were: Abigail who m. Geo. Brewer, Wm., Rebecca who m. Sam'l Lucas and Elizabeth who m. Wm. Lucas.
Some of the above is provable, some not. I spoke with the Pres. of the PG Historical Society today in hopes of finding info on the Thomas Weeks who was there at the same time and she related that there are still many Wyches in PG today.
Hope this might help someone with their roots.
