Athel Wyant, 53, Former Russell Teacher, Dies
Russell – Athel (Tim) Wyant, 53, of 4716 Murray Hill Dr., Chattanooga, Tenn., a former instructor in the Russell School System, died Friday morning at his home of an apparent heart attack.
Mr. Wyant had been an insurance salesman for several years.
He was born June 9, 1914, in Flatwoods, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. George A. Wyant. He was a graduate of Russell High School and attended Morehead State University, where he starred in football under the coaching Ellis Johnson.He was graduated from Ohio State University at Columbus where he also played football.
He served as an ensign in the U.S. Navy during World War II, and was assigned to a PT boat in the European Theatre. Following his return from service he became affiliated with the McMillan Grain Co. in Chicago. He later entered the insurance field and at the time of his death was the owner and operator of the Wyant Independent Insurance Agency.He played football at Russell High School under the coaching of the late Eddie Blickle.
Surviving are the wife, Mrs. Lola Wyant; one daughter, Janna Lee Wyant, and one son Timmy Wyant, both of Chattanooga; three brothers, Ivan Wyant of Flatwoods, Leonard Wyant of North Vernon, Ind., and Herman Wyant of Baltimore, Md.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday at Chattanooga. Burial will be in Chattanooga.
Ivan Wyant and son, Fenton Wyant, of Flatwoods, and David Wyant of Columbus left this morning for Chattanooga.
