According to the Converse County Herald, 9 April 1903, p. 5, Bill McCoy, the killer of Charlie Gunn, died the previous week in New Mexico in a fall from his horse which broke his neck. He had escaped custody several times as recounted in the Lusk Herald, 21 Jan 1887, p. 1, and the Lusk Herald, 29 Jul 1887, p. 1. You can see the original articles at, click on search newspapers, insert Niobrara in the county box, put "Bill McCoy" in the search box (use the quotes), and click search.
