Viola Labarge Cemetery

The Viola - Labarge Cemetery is located up Labarge Creek a few niles NW of Labarge. Neither Lincoln Co. or Sublette Co. Wyoming shows this cemetery. I recall traveling West out of Labarge following Labarge Creek to get to the cemetery. The grave of Billy Williams AKA William Vaughan Williams is located in the center of the cemetery at the upper edge of the cemetery. It is marked with a simple marker - William Williams (a few lettters were missing). I traveled to the cemetery with Herman Genetti of Pinedale who was my guide. He recalled the WPA marked the graves during the depression. This is the grave of my Great Uncle who was murdered in Nov 1899 near the tie camp.

The Sublette Co. Historical Board erected a sign near the Kendall Tie Camp noting the grave site nearby which states, "TIE CAMP 1885-1905 SEVEN DEAD, BERT GLINES KILLED BY A TREE 1903, BILLY WILLIAMS SHOT TO DEATH, TWO INFANTS, BARNHART TWINS AND 3 OTHERS."

IN the spring of 1900 Billy Williams body was brought to the Viola Labarge Cemetery and reburied. Is there a reason the Viola Labarge Cemetery is not recognized?

Joseph Williams
