I think the J.N. Slaughter in CO 1880 is James. I believe his name was James Norris Slaughter. (I had to laugh about 'Slaughter' in the wild west!)
Phoebe Ann married Merritt E. Metcalf in Beatrice, Gage Co., NE 9 Oct. 1861. I thought Phoebe had died since their daughter, Laura (b. 1864), was living with James and Emeline in 1870.
Sarah Ann Slaughter married Leverett Cooper Stevens and moved to MN where she died before 1905. (He remarried after her death)
I am trying to discover some relationship between James Slaughter Family and the James Blair family. They traveled to NE together in 1859. Looking for the parents of Mary Ann Drake Blair, James' wife. I wondered if Emeline Trout was the connection. Been looking for 15 years. Willing to try most anything :-)
