The Chariton Leader, Chariton, Iowa Thursday, July 16, 1908 SAMUEL R. LONG was born near Russell, on May 17, 1879 and died July 13, 1908 near Beverley, Mo., aged 29 years, 1 month and 26 days. He was united in marriage to BERNICE EMMA COLE January 2, 1902, at Russell, Iowa. To this union were born three children, HOWARD, aged 6, HARRY, aged 4 years, and BERYL aged 2 years. He has been in the employ of the C.B. & Q. Railroad for the last four years as fireman and had been promoted to engineer last September, which position he held when he lost his life. He leaves to mourn their loss, besides the wife and three children, a father and mother, three sisters and one brother, all of whom were present at the funeral except one brother, JOHN, of Buffalo, Wyoming, and one sister, LIZZIE, of Sheridan, Wyoming. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday afternoon from the Methodist Church at 2 o'clock by Rev. J.L. Johnson.
