H Troop, 6th U.S. Calvary Soldiers
Have just received a very, very old photo of a troop of about 45 men and 2 officers.Would estimate photo taken in mid-late 1800's or very early 1900's.Only identification on the photo is "H Troop6th U.S. Calvary Soldiers at the Devils Tower in Wyo.Photo by C.C. McBride, Sturgis, S.D."
Photo is a panoramic shot with the troops lined up single file, facing the camera, all on dark colored horses. Two individuals whom I take to be the officers are in front of the troops, one on a dark horse with a white blaze on its face, and the other on a completely white horse.Digitized enhancement of photo shows that the troops are caucasian, not African-American, but features of the men's faces will not enlarge enough for positive identification.
Would greatly appreciate any history or information on photographer or H Troop,6th U.S. Calvary, or url of website which may be able to furnish this information.
