Gordon, I searched a little more for Punteney and Rupert McGirr. The Punteney Ranch was on upper Cottonwood Creek north of Embar which was on Owl Creek to the south. Rupert McGirr was in Big Horn County, Wyoming in the Sunshine District in the 1910 census. In 1914 and 1915 he was at Gebo (a now abandoned coal mining town) north of Thermopolis (Thermopolis Independent newspaper), in 1919 he was reported to be on Grass Creek (the creek north of Cottonwood Creek), source: Thermopolis Independent, 26 Sep 1919, p. 12. In the 1920 census he was in the "Cottonwood District" with his family. The Putney localities I mentioned earlier are in the same vicinity on Cottonwood Creek as the Punteney Ranch.
