I'm trying an experiment on my blog and hope it works! On my blog today, I posted the photo of my father-in-law's Company 162-42 training class at the US Naval Training Station at Great Lakes, Illinois. The photo is dated April 6, 1942. My father in law was Frank Stevens of Chicago, first recruited into the Navy for WWII, then served post-war in the Air Force. Twelve of his friends signed the back of the photo, also listing their home towns.
There are so many men pictured that it is hard to make out facial details on the blog post, so I also am posting enlarged sections of the photo.
My hope is that someone associated with these men will recognize their family member's picture and be able to identify it. I'd love to be able to identify and recognize each of these men for their military service.
You can see the photo on my blog at http://afamilytapestry.blogspot.com/2012/02/finding-little-bit-more.html
You may also see the enlarged sections of the photo there on today's post (see the link above) and then on the posts I will make in the next few days. There are several sections (the photo is 32 inches long!), so it will take several posts to include all the segments.
If you know of any Navy people from that time period, please share this link with them. If you belong to any other WWII forums, I'd appreciate it if you could spread the word there, too.
My hope is that people will see a face they know, and post a comment to the blog to identify each individual pictured.
Thanks for any help in identifying and remembering these men!
