Departing the San Francisco Port of Embarkation on May 26, 1942, the men of the 145th Infantry Regiment, 37th Infantry Division, Ohio National Guard, were passengers onboard two different Troop Ships.

SS Uruguay
USAT James Parker

Arriving at Auckland, New Zealand on June 12, 1942, the 145th Infantry Regiment was based at the following locations:

1st Battalion: Manurewa
2nd Battalion: Pupekohe Racetrack
3rd Battalion: Camp Karaka North

All these locations were within a ten mile radius of Papakura.
