I think I may know that..I've found a news paper clipping, not in very good condition, but I do have a date..What is strange is what little I can read from it it says "Local man killed in Germany while serving with the "9th"Army..?? yet the chaplains letter states he was with the "8th" But the local community college has all the old papers in archives, So I'll check through them next week..
As for my grandfather Navy side.. His discharge papers have that .."USNT Sampson, NY PhibTraBase, Solomon's RecBKs, Portland, Ore, ;USS LCL (L)763;Beach Bn. School ATB, oceanside, Calif.;Uss Rockingham (APA229)Pearl Harbor; Siapan;Guam; Ti??ian;Formosa;Philippine Is.;China Coast."
Not sure what some of it means...
