Don't know anything about AAF, but this might be a place to look.

In the databases at

http://www.armyairforces.com

one can search the MACR by date. For August 15, 1944 there are 38 MACR's listed. It appears 5 are for B-24's. Three were from Squadron 786, one each from Squadron 787 and Squadron 862.

As indicated, I have no expertise in this type of research, but hope that this might, in some way, be helpful.
