WWI Draft/Enlistment/Release Questions
I have very limited information on my great-grandfather, Asa Leon Vaughn's (b: 1897, d: 1984) military career.Or, if he even had one given the following information.
I know that he registered for the draft on June 5, 1918 in Flint, MI (WWI Draft Registration Card). He enlisted on August 28, 1918, and was released on January 17, 1919 (U.S., Department of Veterans Affairs BIRLS Death File, 1850-2010).Finally, his headstone says he was a Private in the US Army in WWI.
Is there a way to find out if he actually saw fighting? If so, where and with what regiment(is that what it is called?)? And, did he received any metals? Is there anything else I can learn about this chapter of his life?
Thank you in advance for any help you can give.
Sandie
