World 1 POW Account of Sgt Elliott Beverly Us Army
I have detailed papers about my Great Uncle whose name was Elliott Lawrence Beverly, of Dexter, Maine who was imprisoned by the Germans for seven months in Stalig 3 near Kustrine. He was captured on D. Day. He talks about the conditions and so much more. How the men kept themselves alive and the pure living nightmares that the were forced to endure. His weight diminished to 118 lbs..he was eventually liberated by the Russians. There were 2,000 other American Prisoners. Sgt. Beverly stated that he had been through hell. he stated that the guards were for the most part Polish and that they treated the prisoners well.He described the food that was given to them to eat.
Sgt. Beverly stated that there was a lot of Diptheria in the prison camp.He talks about the Christmas in 1944 where the men cried like he had never heard before, he included.Sgt Beverly stated ' there are "No aethists in foxholes" Cigarettes were a special treat that came in red Cross packages.this is a riveting article and I would like to find a good home for it. Any suggestions?
