Thanks very much for your response.

My grandfather enlisted at Portland, Maine March 18, 1918.
He was a Private, 51st Balloon Company. He had received several medals.

I am getting older and would be sad if all of the things that I have end up at a yard sale or worse in the trash.

There are not any military bases near where my grandfather enlisted but there is a Army base close to where I live now.

The army base is called Fort Gordon, Augusta,Georgia . I should have thought to contact them before but will do so tomorrow.
