John Russell Bell- deserter in WWI (Maryland)
I am looking for information on my grandfather, John Russell Bell. I have a copy of his WWI registration card and found this information on ancestry.com: Ind 9/28/17 pvt; pvt 1c 12/1/17; corp 3/14/18, 154 Dep Brig; Co D 313 Inf 10/11/17; Co D 307 Am Tn 10/15/17, Deserted 5/17/18.
He deserted...wow.Anyway, I can't seem to find him in 1920 census...maybe he was on the run??? In 1930 census, when I search his name and birth date (Nov. 29, 1895) a record appears (on ancestry.com) for a John Bell in the Maryland House of Corrections.Does anyone know where I could get more information about this person in prison.I have tried to contact the Maryland House of Corrections, but they are giving me the run around, transferring me to a million people.I just want to know that this person is in fact my grandfather. Also, I can't seem to locate his military records.Apparently they were in the fire in 1973 and can't be located.Help....does anyone have any suggestions??
