How did Matthew Broderick get his Grandfather's WWI records?

Anyone else see this episode of "Who Do You Think You Are" on NBC? They had all his service records, battles, awards, etc. I tried that and I got the standard response, "Sorry, all WWI Service Records were lost in a fire"

Was he just one of the fortunate ones?
