Hello Dick, Thank you for your reply. I am certain he served as (he claimed to have served in WWI) I have a photo of him in his WWI uniform and I can see by the chevrons on his arm that he served.Unfortunately the collar buttons are not clear enough to ascertain exactly what regiment he served in. It seems to me he was in artillery as the buttons depict either crossed rifles or cannon. I am trying to get his military records, but without his serial number, my correspondence turns up empty handed.I realize the fire destroyed many records, however some records did survive but apparently are indexed by serial number. I am aware states also maintained records of who was drafted/served and/or were entitled to military pensions. Thanks for any advice you or anyone can give.
