I don't understand why your request for records would be blocked. I recieved a copy of my grandfather's WWII Navy Service record from NARA.

Since he was overseas that means he was in the National Army unit or I have seen the term "Federalized National Guard" Unit and sent where needed not staying or going to places the MO National Guard units went.

Have you tried Google Books? Try searching his name or units and you might find a book with a preview with information.
