Photo of relative's name on Menin Gate, Ypres
Posted by: Johan Morgenthal (ID *****0248) Date: August 25, 2009 at 06:56:13

A relative, JWJ Morgendaal, died in Vlaanderen. His remains were never recovered for proper burial, and thus his name appears on the Ypres (Ieper) Memorial known as the Menin Gate.
According to the Commonwealth War Graves Commission's website, the particulars for his inscription are:

J W J Morgendaal, Private 16003, 1st Regiment (Inf.), South African Infantry.
Died 10 April 1918, Age 18
Reference Panel: Panel 15 - 16 and 16A of Menin Gate Memorial Ypres (Ieper), West-Vlaanderen Belgium.

I was hoping that somebody out there may plan to visit Ieper, and if so, that I could ask such a person to take a digital photo of these panels containing the name of my relative and forward it to me so that I could use it for my genealogical research.
Many thanks for your kindness!!
Johan
