John,
You are too funny! And, you're not old--just experienced! And, thankyou for your service in the USAF & for helping to make us all safe. You & your family have a distinguished military background!
Just so you know, having a WWI Draft Card doesn't mean a man served. All men of a certain age were required by law to register.
I'm not an expert at finding out if someone served. One quick way to check is by finding him in the 1930 census as there's a question asking if man is a veteran.Another way would be to locate a newspaper obit; most obits for men of the age group we are talking about had their military service listed in the obit.
You could also do what I did & beat up some family members to look through their old photos & see if they could find anyone in a uniform, lol.
Some states have lists/books of veterans from the Great War & possibly WWII (I haven't had occasion to look for these); local library would be a resource.Hopefully you live in the same area as your ancestors or have access to a relative who could "volunteer" to do lookups for you.
You could post a new query on genealogy.com, WWI forum (same one you're on now) & ask for some assistance with the three men you don't have info on.Give their full names (first, middle, last), dates of birth & where exactly they were from.State in your query that you're new at this (everyone is new at some time) & perhaps someone has resources at home that can help point you in the right direction. There are some really nice, resourceful folks who post here.
If I can help you, John, feel free to email me directly--there's no naive questions. You can find most posters email addresses by clicking on their name but I'll save you the trouble. My email is:
[email protected]
By the way, did you get the 4 WWI Draft Registration Cards I sent you directly? They didn't come back so I guessed you got them ok. If you can't find them, look in your Spam folder. If I need to resend, just let me know.
Best of luck with your search, John!!
Linda
