Francis James Evans South Wales Boarderers
Dear List, I wonder if someone can assist in finding out where my grandfather would have served in WW1.
This is what I have : Francis James EVANS Service Number 15948. He lied about his age he was 16 when he enlisted.
With South Wales Boarderers , UK .His son remembers him mentioning Salonika maybe Ypres he had 3 medals Bronze Star dates 1914 to 1915 , Silver George V/s head one side Horseman the other dates 1914-1918
and a pale bronze round medal inscribed The Great War for Civilisation 1914-1918.
His tradewas a sadler and I think he followed where the horses were.We also have a few fadedphotos taken in the war,it looks like he was wearing an Australian type hat in one photo which might mean something.
Any help appreciated
regards Vicky Harding NZ
