Mr. Sayre: Thanks very much for your reply and the time you spent searching your records. Actually, Isaiah Shamblin appears in the 1820 Mason Co (W)V census. I have never been able to find him anywhere in 1810 (or in 1800). One of his daughters moved to Illinois and filed a widow's pension application from there indicating she had been married in Mason Co (W)V in 1817. In addition, one of Isaiah's sons died in Kanawha and his death certificate indicates he had been born in Kanawha Co in 1811 (I realize the person providing the info might not have known where he was born). By the way, I am descended from the David Casto you mentioned as an early settler in the Buckhannon area. Also, of the Grasslick settlers you mentioned, I am descended from Joel Cunningham (as well as Isaiah Shamblin). I believe Isaiah Shamblin originally came from the Frederick Co Va area---did any of the early Buckhannon settlers come from there? Again, thanks for your help. And please keep an eye out for Isaiah Shamblin for me! Bud Carder
