Seeking descendants of Union veterans in Upshur Co.

I am seeking descendants of Union soldiers and sailors who are in or near Upshur County. I am seeking to set up both a men's lineage society called Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War and a women's lineage society called the Ladies of the Grand Army of the Republic. Both groups formed in 1881 and are Congressionally chartered.

The word "descendant" here also includes blood-related nephews, great nephews, great great nephews, etc. as was as direct descendants.

Males must be at least age 6 and females at least age 10 to join.

I will be happy to assist anyone needing help with their ancestry to join.

The purposes of both of these organizations is: to educate about the service and sacrifice of Union veterans; to preserve battlefields, artifacts, and monuments relating to Union veterans; to mark and to catalogue graves of Union soldiers; to commemorate Memorial Day; to promote patriotism.

Contact me: Keith D. Ashley, 34465 Crew Road, Pomeroy, OH 45769 (PH: 740-992-7874) or E: kdashley2@hotmail.com
