The current newspapers were not in existence in 1880-1881. If there was a trial, the trial records should be recorded in the Circuit Clerks Office in the Randolph County courthouse.
In the early 1900's there was a settlement and Post Office at Cheat Bridge. This settlement was associated with the construction of the railroad and developing of timbering operations in that area. I have seen no reference made to any settlement in that area prior to 1900.
