RANDOLPH COUNTY, VIRGINIA, DISTRICT #52, PAGES 30B-31A.
Let's see...The head of household is
Frederick Wise, Age 63, M, Farmer, born in PA, illiterate
The rest of the household is:
Sarah Wise, Age 35, F, born in VA, illiterate
Elizabeth Wise, Age 10, F, born in VA
Randolph Wise, Age 6, M, born in VA
Margaret J. Wise, Age 2, F, born in VA
Mary A. Wise, Age <1, F, born in PA
The relationship to the head of household is not given in the 1850 Census, but presumably Sarah is the wife and the rest are their children (although given the age discrepancy, I guess it could be a father, daughter (or daughter-in-law), and grandchildren. When I wrote "illiterate", it means there was a check mark in the column for people over 20 who could not read or write. There were no marks in the columns for married in the last year or attended school in the last year.
For Mary, the age is hard to read. It looks to me like it MIGHT be 7/12. It is certainly something over 12, meaning less than 1 year old, but the top number is difficult to read. Be aware that the ages are my interpretations of the Census image. While I'm fairly certain of my transcription, there could be an error...
