You are in luck! Richard PURDY is listed as a Union veteran living in Mineral County, WV, in 1890. I also have a book on Maryland Union soldiers. Richard PURDY is a private in Company C, 9th Maryland Volunteer Infantry (Union) mustering in June 20 1863 and being discharged March 20, 1864. The compaiy was recruited in Blatimore City and raised in Baltirmoe Couty. The 9th Regiment was assigned to General FRENCH's Divisin and took part in the movement that drove the enemy from Maryland Heights (at Harper's Ferry). It then crossed the Potomac River at Harper's Ferry and occpuied Louden Heights, VA. They then occupied Charlestown, W.VA. until Oct. 18, 1863 when they were attacked, surrounded, and captured.

That would make you eligible for membership! I would be glad to send you more information by snail mail if you are interested. It is a little too much for e-mail.
