Peter Jung: I, too am a descendant of a Hessian Soldier. The story goes that Peter Jung, born 1759 in Caldern, Germany came to America as a Hessian soldier; ( Hetrina) and deserted to Washington's army It is not known how his name was changed from Peter Jung to Peter Groover- could have married and took his wife's last name or could have changed his name when he deserted. He was in the Revolutionay War 1780 in Collier's N.C. militia regiment- Capt. Trice's company, under Maj. Armstrong and Gen. Gates; all documented in the military records- 1827-1832. Many of the Hessian's soldiers that joined the Revolutionary army were also reported killed, in the Hetrina, as the Hessians were alloted money for the dead soldiers but nothing for the deserters.<snip>

Found this name in my data base. the name I am researching was John custer
