Hi Diane,
I can tell you based on both Morton's & Wiley's histories of Preston Co. that the Gadds did not stick around long in Preston Co.; however, there definitely were some Gadds there in the early days of settlement.
In a book entitled THE GADDS by Violet Gadd Coonts, the author ventures the opinion that the Elijah Gadd, the Thomas Gadd, and the Absalom Gadd whose names appear on a petition of 1798 for the creation of Preston Co. were all brothers, sons of an Elijah Gadd, and were all born in Baltimore Co., MD. Around 1774, these brothers began migrating west; they first went to Bedford Co., PA, then apparently came to Preston Co., WV, and then on westward--so the next stopping point would likely have been Ohio, or possibly Kentucky.
The problem with all this, of course, is finding any documentation from such an early date.
