I'm seeking info on the family of George W. Knisell of Preston county, West Virginia. I know some things already, but any further info anyone could supply would be a great help.
George W. Knisell was a native of Alsace province, France. He was a wagoneer in Napoleon's army and was at the Battle of Waterloo. He turned up in Kingwood, WV around 1832. He worked as a wheelwright and lived in a notable house for the time--a stuccoed one--when everyone else dwelt in log cabins. His wife was renowned in the county for being an excellent cook, but I don't know her name or where she was from.
George W. Knisell had at least two children: George L. Knisell, who was killed in 1862 at Bull Run (I assume the reference is to the Second Battle of Bull Run, and not the Bull Run in Preston county); & Philip W. Knisell, born in 1817, who was married to Melinda Collis and who lived at Bird's Creek near Howesville, WV.
My great-great-grandmother was Nancy Knisell. She was born 28 June 1843; she was married to Ben Miller; she died in September 1928 at Howesville, WV. I'm fairly certain that George W. Knisell was either her father or her grandfather, but I don't know how to link them up.
Any further info on the Knisell family would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
