Amy,

I should have picked up on the fact that the Samuel & Mary A Pierce of the 1850 census of Preston Co couldn't have been your Samuel Wesley & Mary A Pierce as they weren't married until 1853. I must be slipping in my old age!

Do the pension papers give the date and place of marriage for Samuel Wesley Pierce & Mary Ann Sinclair? This would be help me determine his whereabouts in 1850.

Samuel Wesley Pierce would fit into the family of George S Pierce (1793-1881), brother of Jesse S Pierce, but he does not appear in their household in 1850. Could he have been missed?

Preston Co deed records often name heirs or give relationships. The first time I'm at the Preston Co courthouse or the WV Archives, I'll check Pierce deeds. We will find Samuel Wesley Pierce's parents one way or another!

Roy Lockhart
