The following information comes from James Shaw who has written a book on the Everlys, and is a descendant of William Henry.

Louisa A. Shaffer was the daughter of Aaron Shaf(f)er. She was born 29 Jan 1845 and died 7 Jan 1880. She is buried in Mt. Zion Cemetery in Rohr, WV (near Masontown). They had one child Addie Blanche Everly. Are you related to her?

William Henry then married Leveria or Lavara Shaffer. Lavara was born 17 May 1851 and died 25 Aug 1921. She too is buried in Mt. Zion. She is one of 10 children, 2 of which were twins. Lavara is the daughter of David Shaffer (b abt 1804 in PA) and Elizabeth Fulton (b 30 Nov 1820 and d 15 Mar 1910 according to her obituary (which I have in my possession).

I believe that David and Aaron are the sons of Henry Shaf(f)er and Elizabeth Bales. There is some connection to a Nelson Shaffer but I have nothing to go on there.

Elizabeth Fulton is the daughter of Thomas Fulton. I have no further information on him. The obit does not mention her mother’s name and it also states that “she became a Christian at an early age.” This corroborates the family tale that I am of descent through my mother’s side of a Native American. Although it was always stated that we were Cherokee, I am still trying to determine if that is in fact correct.

Hope this helps, Debbie
