According to notes provided by Mr. Lowell Pitsenbarger, of Meadow Bluff, WV: (in sources from George L. Bowyer of Austin, TX)

"I might add that there was a marriage between Great Grandpa Ben and a lady by the name of White. Great Grandpa Ben didn't bother much with the paper work in them days.
He married Taylor without a divorce from White.
When White found out she sent the law after him.
Some one informed Grandpa at night they was coming. Being in early winter, ground froze. He grabbed his shoes and took off bare footed. When the law got there he ws gone and they never came back as it was a distance of aprox. 60 or 70 miles by horse back in them days.
There was at least one child born to the White and Bowyer union. His name was Jim Bowyer and lived most his lfe at Oak Hill, W. VA."
