Pam, thanks for responding! Here's what I have on the Joshua E. Mitchell I'm researching plus the background I have on his family so far:

Elijah Mitchell + (Nancy Alley?) married June 10, 1786 in Henrico County, Virginia. I'm not sure if they are the parents of Decovid E. Mitchell (b. about 1796, Franklin VA and died 1857).

Decovid E. Mitchell married Elizabeth Craighead or Craghead on March 12, 1821 in Franklin, VA. One of their children was Joshua E. Mitchell, born about 1826. Joshua's birthplace is listed as Virginia on the 1860 census, but I have no other documentation as to where in VA Joshua was born.

Joshua E. Mitchell married Esther Blanchet or Blanchard in about 1849 (Oct. 4, 1849 in Cabell, VA according to one family record I found). Joshua E. Mitchell and Esther were living in Floyd County, VA per the 1860 census. Joshua was a farmer. Joshua and Esther's children per the census were named Mary, Luther, Julia, Martha, Rosabell, and William H. Esther later gave birth to a last child, Etta Minerva, and per family stories, died a short time after Etta was born. Etta's marriage certificate (Wytheville, Wythe Co. VA) says her birth date was March 18, 1864.

Joshua died during the Civil War. He had joined the confederate army during the war and died of wounds. I have no idea where either he or Esther died, nor where they may be buried.
